This difficult decision follows a series of regression errors in different Microsoft products and their company decisions, which have rendered MS Access and its components difficult to install for users and difficult to support.
Some factors in the decisions are as follows:
- Microsoft OneDrive no longer working with MS Access; regression error occurred more than 9 months ago (at the time of writing this article) with no solution, work around or resolution date.
- MS Access not supporting MySQL drivers correctly, which are required to access Online databases.
- The latest version of MySQL connector is 9.2 but MS Access 32-bit will not support after 8.0 and MS Access 64-bit will work correctly only up to version 8.3
- MS Access will not work correctly if multiple version are installed, causing issues with other application in Windows
- New security levels in Windows have caused some users to be unable to install the required drivers
- Frequent regression errors after Windows update
- End of support by Microsoft of Windows 10
- Increased prices for Microsoft products
- Free Access-Runtime not up-to-date with MS Access full version new features
- MS Access still not supported on Apple products
- Computers are decreasing in popularity
- And the list goes on...
